Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: July 7, 2026 · Effective July 7, 2026
The short version: only text people who agreed to hear from you, honor every STOP, and keep it legal. Spam and abuse put every shop on the platform at risk of being blocked by phone carriers — so we take this seriously.

1.Who this applies to

This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) applies to every barbershop or business that uses Back In Chair (each, a “Shop”), and to anyone the Shop invites onto its account (owners, managers, barbers, and staff). It is part of, and should be read with, our Terms of Service. If you break this policy, we may suspend or terminate your account under Section 8.

2.Consent comes first

You may only send messages through Back In Chair to people who have given you their number and agreed to be texted — for example, a client who checks a consent box at check-in, texts you first, or otherwise opts in. You may not:

  • text purchased, rented, scraped, or third-party contact lists;
  • text people who never gave you their number, or who gave it for a different purpose;
  • continue texting anyone after they reply STOP (or any opt-out keyword) — opt-outs must be honored immediately and permanently unless the person opts back in.

You are responsible for keeping proof that each client opted in. See our Messaging Terms for how STOP and HELP work.

3.Prohibited content

You may not use Back In Chair to send messages that relate to or promote:

  • SHAFT content — sex or adult material, hate speech, alcohol, firearms, or tobacco/vaping (these are restricted by phone carriers);
  • cannabis, CBD, illegal drugs, or prescription medication;
  • gambling, loans, debt relief, or other high-risk financial offers;
  • anything false, misleading, deceptive, or fraudulent (including phishing or fake links);
  • content that is harassing, threatening, obscene, defamatory, or that infringes someone else’s rights.

4.Prohibited conduct

You may not, and may not allow anyone else to:

  • send unsolicited bulk or “spam” messages, or use the service in any way that violates the TCPA, CAN-SPAM, the CTIA guidelines, carrier rules, or any other applicable law;
  • impersonate another person or business, or hide who is sending a message;
  • share your login, resell the service, or use it on behalf of a business other than your own without our written permission;
  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to the platform, other accounts, or client data;
  • introduce malware, scrape the platform, overload it, or interfere with how it works for others;
  • use the service to harass, stalk, or harm anyone.

5.Identify yourself & keep it relevant

Your messages should make clear which Shop they come from and should relate to that Shop’s services — appointments, reminders, rebooking, reviews, and similar. Don’t send content a reasonable client wouldn’t expect after signing up with your shop.

6.Your client data

The client information you upload is yours to manage, but you must have the right to use it and must handle it lawfully. Don’t upload data you weren’t given permission to use, and don’t use Back In Chair to build or sell marketing lists. How we handle data on your behalf is covered in our Privacy Policy.

7.Why this matters

Text messaging runs on shared infrastructure. When one sender spams or breaks the rules, phone carriers can throttle or block messages — sometimes for every shop on the platform, not just the offender. Following this policy keeps messages actually getting delivered for everyone.

8.Enforcement

If we believe you’ve violated this policy, we may — with or without notice, depending on the severity — pause message sending, remove content, suspend or terminate your account, and report unlawful activity to the appropriate authorities. Serious or repeated violations can result in immediate termination without a refund, as described in our Refund & Cancellation Policy. We may also be required to act on carrier or regulator requests.

9.Reporting abuse

If you received a message you believe breaks these rules, or you want to report misuse, email help@backinchair.com. To stop messages from a specific shop, reply STOP to its texts.

10.Changes & contact

We may update this policy as laws and carrier requirements change; the “Last updated” date reflects the latest version. Continuing to use Back In Chair after a change means you accept the updated policy. Questions? Email help@backinchair.com.
